Let’s make sure every child has books in her or his home, donate now to the BMA Virtual Book Drive! Estimates show that there is only ONE book per 300 children in Kansas City’s low-income areas. Reach Out and Read Kansas City (ROR-KC) works to bridge this gap by teaming with pediatric offices to distribute books and literacy advice during each well-child visit. ROR-KC needs your help to purchase new books for the children. By donating through the BMA Virtual Book Drive, you will maximize our impact by leveraging ROR-KC’s bulk purchasing power, and ensuring that those books most in demand are those supplied by this drive. 

How to donate?

1. Sponsor a child’s complete library for 5 years or select specific books for purchase NOW, 9/9 through 9/13, through the virtual book drive.
2. Make sure to list BMA in the section that inquires what organization prompted the donation.
3. If you prefer to donate a particular dollar amount instead of purchasing a library or books, please visit ROR-KC’s regular giving page; type in the amount you wish to donate; and note in the Special Instructions that it is for the ‘BMA book drive’. If you have an employer match or want to use an employer’s credit card for your donation, you can do so via this form.

Each day during the virtual book drive, BMA will draw from that day’s donors for prizes including tickets to the Brews on Tap ($40 value) and gift cards. Donate once and be entered into that day's daily drawing, or increase your odds of winning by donating each day during the drive, Monday 9/9 through Friday 9/13!

Would you also like to donate your like-new (very, very gently used) books for ages 0-5? Contact ROR-KC directly to coordinate a time to drop off the books at its offices by calling 913-588-0295.

How ROR-KC works...

• Pediatric providers encourage parents to read to children and offer developmental advice around books at each well-child visit from birth through 5 years.
• A new book is given to children between birth and 5 years to take home at each check-up, resulting in a 15-book library.
• ROR-KC volunteers read to children in clinic waiting rooms.
